As such, the WWP continues to identify long-term rehabilitation and reintegration

programs that will assist transitioning wounded warriors as they move on with their life while learning to cope and thrive with a new disability. We’re continuing to develop programs for warriors and their families that go well beyond the WWP Backpack Program, hospital peer counseling, and benefits counseling work that injured service members received while hospitalized.

Today, the WWP offers many non-hospital programs and services, such as:

• Combat stress management;

• Working to improve the availability of prosthetic services through the VA;

• Advocating the establishment of VA “Tier II” poly-trauma systems to

coordinate and monitor the long-term needs of service members with

multiple types of injuries, including traumatic brain injury;

• Employment training and job referrals;

• Sports and recreational trips and programs; and many more.

We encourage injured service members to keep in touch and take advantage of our programs, even as they move beyond hospitalization. Severe injuries continue to affect an individual long after being released from Walter Reed, Brooke Army Medical Center, or any other military hospital. WWP is committed to working with these individuals to provide a full range of programs to meet their changing needs.
