Breast Cancer Foundation

Imagine life without breast cancer. Get Involved. Donate now!

Because 10 million women around the world could die from breast cancer in the next 25 years, we continue to fight every minute of every day to save every life.

Thanks to people like you who share our vision of a world without breast cancer, we’ve made huge discoveries in finding new and better ways to detect the disease at its earliest stages. We now know so much more about the different types of breast cancer and specific ways to attack each kind. And we work day-in and day-out in communities throughout the world to ensure everyone can access quality care and these new advances. But the fact is, breast cancer is still life-threatening, and until we can keep people from dying from it, we need your help - your generosity is crucial as we continue this fight.

Our mission is to achieve prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by providing critical funding for innovative clinical and translational research at leading medical centers worldwide, and increasing public awareness about good breast health. Currently, over 90 cents of every dollar donated goes to research and awareness programs.

Our ways to donate to BCRF

You can help us achieve prevention and find a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime by joining us in our quest to eradicate this devastating disease from the lives of women and families everywhere.

Why should I support the Foundation?
There are many good reasons to support the Foundation including the fact that more than 90% of all funds raised goes directly to breast cancer research grants and awareness programs. Browse our website and visit Responsible Giving, read about our Research Funding or visit our Pink Partners for more reasons to support our work.

May I make a tax-deductible donation right now?
Yes! Just follow this link and our secure server will safeguard all the information you enter, and will encrypt your file so that it cannot be read during transmission to our Donor Department.

Can I call BCRF to make a donation?
Yes, you can call our toll-free number, 1-866-FIND-A-CURE (346-3228), anytime between 9am and 5pm EST, Monday through Friday. If the line is busy, you may leave a message and a staff member will call you back.

Can I make a donation by check?
Yes, just make out your check or a U.S. money order payable to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and mail to us at: 60 East 56th Street, 8th floor, New York, NY 10022.

May I donate "in honor of" or "in memory of" a loved one?
Yes! When you make a tribute donation online you will have the opportunity to make a donation in memory or in honor of a someone, and you will be able to request that BCRF send a gift notification to whomever you designate.

Can I make a donation in lieu of wedding favors?
Yes! A charitable donation in lieu of wedding favors is a wonderful way to honor your guests or a loved one and make a tax deductible contribution to your favorite charity. We can provide you with table cards, pink ribbons and other materials in acknowledgement of your gift. For further information please contact Carol Edwards at 646-497-2600, or via email at cedwards@bcrfcure.org.
Can I contribute to BCRF through my IRA without tax consequences?

Yes! As a result of recent legislation, there is new incentive for doing so before the end of 2007. Through December 31, 2007, the IRA charitable rollover provision permits individuals age 70 and above to make charitable donations of up to $100,000 from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and Roth IRAs without having to count the distributions as taxable income. The IRA Charitable Rollover is intended to benefit donors of all income levles. Now is your opportunity to take advantage of this valuable incentive. You should consult with your tax or legal counsel to make sure that you meet all the criteria and that your intended gift will qualify under this new provision.

May I include the Foundation in my Planned Giving?
Yes! Planned giving encompasses all charitable gifts, which involved entities or vehicles associated with planning, such as wills, trusts and other 'split interest' gifts. Your financial advisor can help you learn more about planned giving options, and we would be happy to guide you in the right direction.

Is there a simple way to include the Foundation in my estate plans?
Yes! Here is some sample language to share with your attorney if you would like to include BCRF in your estate plans:

"I give, devise and bequeath to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, a not-for-profit organization having its administrative offices at 60 East 56th St, 8th floor, New York, New York, for the use of its activities in the support of medical research related to breast cancer, the sum of _____ dollars and/or _____ shares of capital stock of _____corporation and/or the following described property_____and/or_____% of my residuary estate."

May I donate shares of stock to the Foundation?
Yes! If you were thinking of locking in some of your capital gains this year, consider the more tax-efficient alternative of donating shares of appreciated mutual funds or stock to the Foundation instead. You can deduct the current market value of the gift for income tax purposes, just as if you had made a cash payment. As an added advantage, you will avoid any capital gains taxes you would have owed if you had sold the assets instead.

May I purchase products to support the Foundation?
Yes! Visit our Pink Partners and Programs to see all the products available from our Corporate Alliance partners to benefit the Foundation. These special product promotions represent a vital component of our ability to fund the most promising research that will help us achieve our goal--prevention and a cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.

May I donate my life insurance policy to the Foundation?
Yes! The substantial leverage involved in insurance would afford you the capability of gifting a significant amount for a relatively small cost; in return you would probably receive an income tax charitable deduction. Making a charity the beneficiary of a life insurance policy is one of the simplest ways of providing a bequest to those organizations you wish to support.

May I include the Foundation in my company's Matching Gift Program?
Many organizations offer to match charitable donations made by their employees to charitable organizations. Follow this link to see if your employer matches employee gifts. Or ask the corporate donations officer or your human resources department if your company participates, and if so, fill out an application form. Multiply the impact of your gift! Even if your company doesn't have a program, you might be able to take advantage of the matching gift program of a parent, subsidiary or affiliate company.

If you are an employer, consider making a contribution to the Foundation in your employees' names, as a meaningful way to celebrate birthdays, holidays or other occasions when you might give material gifts.

If you have any questions about any of these alternate giving methods, call your financial advisor, or BCRF -- we'd be delighted to provide more information. Please contact us directly:

Host your own fundraiser to benefit BCRF!

Hosting your own fundraiser is a great way to raise money for breast cancer research.

Here is how you can get started:

Step 1: Decide what kind of fundraiser you want to host. It could be a bake sale, an auction, a sporting event, a birthday party - there are so many creative ways to raise money and get your community involved.

If you would like to invite your friends and family to make a donation in lieu of wedding gifts, birthday gifts or for your Bar/Bat Mitzvah, BCRF has created some sample cards and text (click on the links) that you can adapt for your own fundraiser. Please note: if you are interested in donating in lieu of wedding favors, please call for information: 646-497-2600 (Toll free: 866-FIND-A-CURE - 346-3228) or email cedwards@bcrfcure.org.

You can also read about some of our other events under previous fundraisers, and be inspired!

Step 2: Contact BCRF. Tell us about your event and ask questions about fundraising and the Foundation. Let us know if you would like us to send you materials (pink ribbons, brochures) for your event. We can't wait to hear from you!

Contact: Carol Edwards
Phone: 646-497-2607
Email: cedwards@bcrfcure.org
Fax: 646-497-0890

Step 3: Know the facts! Here is some helpful information to have at your fingertips. Learn about our work and mission so that you can tell your friends why you are supporting BCRF. Tell your family and friends exactly where their donation is going.

Step 4: BCRF has developed a special online donation program called Time For Research to assist you. We strongly recommend that you consider this program as part of your fundraising strategy. You can use Time For Research alone to receive and record your contributions, or include it along with other offline fundraising options to offer an online component for your event participants.

Step 5: After your event, send us an email or give us a call and let us know how it went!

Using The Breast Cancer Research Foundation name: If you intend to make us your beneficiary charity and would like to use our name, you are welcome to say that proceeds will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation&reg. Please make checks payable to this name, and send them to the following address:

The Breast Cancer Research Foundation
Attn: Carol Edwards
60 East 56th Street, 8th floor
New York, NY 10022

NOTES:
If you are a small business selling a product and donating an amount from your sales to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, please contact Jaclyn Lee. This is an area of fundraising handled by our Marketing department. Jaclyn will gladly walk you through the steps.

BCRF is also a registered charity on the
